  1. Send an email to omahasystem+subscribe@googlegroups.com.
  2. You will receive a confirmation email with subject "Join request for The Omaha System Listserv".
  3. REPLY to the email to confirm your join request. Do NOT click the blue button to "Join this Group".

  4. If you've joined successfully, you will receive another email with subject "You have joined the group omahasystem@googlegroups.com".
    • If you are having difficulties, send an email to Erin Young describing your problem.

To POST A MESSAGE to the Listserv:

  1. Send the email to be posted to omahasystem@googlegroups.com. NOTE: The Listserv is moderated, so there is a delay in everyone receiving your message.
    • Please include your name and contact information at the bottom of the message.
    • If your message does not appear on recent messages within a week, email Erin Young.
    • Some messages, especially spam, are deleted and do not appear on the Listserv.
  2. To respond only to the sender of a posted message, click Reply in your email client/software. Only the sender's address should be in the "To" box.
  3. To respond to everyone on the Listserv, click Reply All in your email client/software. The "To" box will contain omahasystem@googlegroups.com and the original sender's address.
  4. Posted messages will have "[Omaha System Listserv]" preceding the subject to identify legitimate Omaha System Listserv messages.
    • Add omahasystem@googlegroups.com to your Contacts or Address Book to prevent messages being marked as spam.

To VIEW PREVIOUS MESSAGES, click Listserv recent messages (May 2013-present) (this page may not be viewable with older web browsers). View older archives (1998-May 2013) here.

To CHANGE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, follow the "Join the Listserv" instructions above using your new email address. If you do not join with your new address you will no longer be on the Listserv.

To UNSUBSCRIBE from the Listserv:

  1. Send an email to omahasystem+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com from your currently subscribed email account.
  2. You will receive a confirmation email with subject "Your unsubscription to omahasystem was successful". No further action is required.

Not getting messages? Try these solutions:

  • Repeat the Join instructions above. Make sure to REPLY to the join confirmation email--don't click the blue button!
  • Wait a few days after posting a message. Since this list is moderated for your protection, there is a delay in sending the message to the entire group.
  • If you use a Google account for the Listserv, you may need to change your Delivery Settings to "Email (about 1 per day)".
  • Messages may be going to your spam folder. Add omahasystem@googlegroups.com to your Contacts or Address Book to prevent messages being marked as spam.
  • Your email service provider may be blocking all mail from Google Groups. Google Groups works with email service providers to remove blocks as they occur.
  • If all else fails, please email Erin Young with details of your difficulty.

Posting Guidelines:

This is a moderated group; as such, messages will be delayed in sending and screened for appropriate content. Please:

  • Keep messages short and clear; limit abbreviations. Use a specific subject line.
  • If you post a message and want responses, ask Listserv members to Reply directly to you, not the entire group. After you receive responses, consider posting a summary on the Listserv. You might want to form a small group with others to share your specific interest.
  • You may post a message in both English and another language; the number of Listserv members who speak more than one language is increasing rapidly.
  • Do NOT send messages with graphics, attachments, requests for employment or employees wanted. Such messages will be deleted.

Purpose of the Listserv

The purpose of the Listserv is to share information directly relevant to Omaha System users and those interested in the Omaha System, not general information. Typically, two to six messages are posted on the Listserv each month. Please encourage others to join the Listserv and participate. Consider sending messages to the Listserv about the following:

  • What questions do you have about the Omaha System after you read the information on this Web site?
  • Are you scheduling Omaha System refresher sessions for your colleagues; increasing the reliability, validity, and usability of your data; or improving the use of your software?
  • What strategies have you used successfully to teach, implement, and maintain accurate and consistent use?
  • Are you using outcomes data to help your board members, funding sources, accreditors and surveyors, and general public understand your successes?
  • How are you solving the clinical data-information puzzle?
  • Are you in touch with others in your area employed in similar and different practice, education, and/or research settings? Collaboration across settings is a great way to increase the extent and quality of Omaha System use.
  • Are you organizing a relevant conference, meeting or workshop? Speaking or sharing a poster? Tell readers how to obtain more information.
  • Have you written a relevant article or chapter? Read one that others may find useful?
  • Have you released new Omaha System software or a significant upgrade? Do you have news to share about issues related to the Omaha System that will impact your customers?
  • What announcements or news can you share?
